Premier hopes Sarawak Day 2026 celebration will foster unity, appreciation of State’s heritage

KUCHING, July 3: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed hope that the coming Sarawak Day 2026 celebration would serve as a platform to strengthen unity among the State’s multi-ethnic communities, while also fostering greater appreciation of Sarawak’s history, heritage, and development aspirations.

According to a Facebook post, the Office of the Premier of Sarawak said this followed a courtesy call from the Sarawak Day 2026 organising committee on Abang Johari today.

The visit aimed to officially extend an invitation to the Premier to attend the Sarawak Day 2026 celebration, which will be held in Sibu from Jul 20-22.

At the same time, he was also briefed on the preparations and programme lineup, which includes an exhibition, an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony, Unity Walk and Zumba programmes, a town hall session, and Konsert Rakyat, which the Premier welcomed.

Also present were Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin; Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy Minister for Port Development Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee; Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonial, and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) director Datu Hamdan Sharbini; and Sibu Resident Superi Awang Said. — DayakDaily
