KUCHING, Oct 21: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari has suggested that Sarawak could host the 2027 South East Asian (SEA) Games.

Abang Johari said the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia has requested for Sarawak to prepare for the event which will be held in 2027.

“At the moment, we are building the facilities needed to hold the international level sports events,” he said.

Abang Johari was replying to a question from a member of the audience during the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2023 Townhall session held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre streamed live via Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page today.

He said the Sarawak government is also currently building a sports village based on the New Zealand’s sports village model.

He explained that this is because New Zealand excels in Olympic events, although its population is small.

“The sports village is currently being built near Stadium Negeri in Petra Jaya and the latest addition to the construction project is a velodrome,” he added. — DayakDaily
