KUCHING, Oct 10: Sarawak’s Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is hailed as an exemplary unifying figure and a fatherly leader to all Sarawakians, regardless of race or religion.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this in his speech text delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony, held in conjunction with TYT’s 79th Birthday Celebration at Imperial Hotel here last night (Oct 10).

He said Wan Junaidi is not only the Head of State but also a symbol of unity for Sarawakians of diverse races and beliefs.

“He has always strived to foster strong relationships with all faith leaders.

“In fact, just days after his appointment as the eighth Governor of Sarawak on January 7, 2024, he hosted a dinner at Pullman Hotel Kuching, inviting all heads of religion in Sarawak,” Abang Johari said.

He further said Wan Junaidi’s strong commitment to inclusivity has been evident throughout his public service.

While serving as the Federal Minister of Natural Resources and Environment from 2015 to 2018, he contributed to the establishment of temples and churches in his constituency.

He also highlighted that Wan Junaidi received a delegation from Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR), accompanied by the heads of other religions, during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on March 31.

He added that Wan Junaidi and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi are admired for their humility and closeness to the people, often seen visiting markets and dining at local kopitiams.

“Despite his high position, Tun remains humble and approachable, earning admiration for his warmth and compassion,” Abang Johari emphasised. — DayakDaily
