Premier greenlights construction of multipurpose hall, surau in Bintulu totaling RM26.5 mln

KUCHING, Feb 15: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved the construction of a multipurpose hall and surau in Bintulu worth a total of RM26.5 million.

Abang Johari said the construction of the multipurpose hall proposed by Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang shows he cares about youth development in the constituency.

“Pang, who is a Chinese man, also requested to build a surau for SK Asyakirin. This is what makes Sarawak unique.


“This is our society in Sarawak, we coexist among ourselves, and let us develop Sarawak towards a high level,” he said when attending the Chinese New Year 2024 open house organised by the Tanjong Batu constituency service centre and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bintulu in Bintulu today.

Also present at the event were Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang and other distinguished guests.

Earlier on, Pang, who hosted the event, in his welcoming speech requested a multipurpose hall to be built near Dewan Suarah Bintulu to cater to the youth and active senior citizens.

He said having the multipurpose hall would help to boost interest among local youth in sports activities.

“We could expect more achievements in the future, as far as sports is concerned. Our estimation for the total cost come roughly to around RM25 million,” he said.

At the same time, Pang also requested for the construction of the surau for SK Asyakirin with an estimated cost of about RM1.5 million.

According to him, the religious facility would be of utmost importance for Muslims, particularly the staff and students at the school. — DayakDaily
