LIMBANG, Apr 11: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) politicians do not need to rely on rhetoric as they deliver on promises, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking during the Sarawakku Sayang Programme for Limbang Division at the Limbang Sports Complex, Abang Johari said that while other politicians speak rhetorically, GPS’ politicians are implementing policies to help the people.
“We even assist students by helping repay National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans. No other state assists its students in repaying PTPTN—Sarawak started this,” he said at the programme which was broadcast live via TVS today.
The Premier also pointed out that Sarawak introduced a policy that strengthens connections between grassroots communities and leadership whereby issues at the grassroots level are analysed collectively and solutions are sought together, followed by the establishment of various agencies to provide channels linking the grassroots with the government.
In addition, digital economy policies were also introduced which proved to be an advantage when Covid-19 caused consumers to utilise digital communication and cashless payments.
This was also when the State government used digital quarantine systems and visitors were required to be quarantined in hotels, which also ensured that the hotel business continued operating, with the government paying for visitors’ accommodation and meals during the two-week quarantine period.
“Fortunately, Sarawak had begun generating higher revenue, which we channelled back to help the people facing difficulties. We provided food assistance and other aid.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is not rhetoric. Politicians sometimes speak rhetorically, but Sarawak politicians under GPS do not rely on rhetoric. We implement what we promise,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and wife Datin Amar Ruziah Tahir; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and wife Dato Baduyah Bujang. — DayakDaily
