KUCHING, Nov 6: The formation of Sarawak’s boutique airline is in tandem with rapid development in Borneo following the relocation of Indonesia’s capital, Nusantara, to Kalimantan.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he believed that with the strategic geographical position, Sarawak has the potential to become a hub in various fields of cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia in the future.
“In addition, this move is expected to increase the State’s income through the growth of the tourism and trade sectors, as well as provide wider economic opportunities to the local population,” he said during Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) 27th Convocation Ceremony held at Detar Putra in Samarahan today.
On Oct 27, the Sarawak government through Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to facilitate the acquisition of shares in MASWings.
Abang Johari said despite being a boutique airline, it would offer regional routes reaching to the Far East, Asean as well as domestic routes. — DayakDaily
