KUCHING, July 15: The federal government should not withdraw funding applications although Sarawak is acknowledged as a high-income State, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said Sarawak still needs a lot of funds to raise the income of the rural population.
“But of course, since Sarawak have been categorised as a high-income State, surely there is an impact in terms of subsidy,”
“What I fear is, due to our high-income status, and based on the World Bank’s formula, if you have reached a certain income level, they will withdraw certain incentives,” he told a press conference at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here earlier tonight.
He added that since the World Bank’s acknowledgement of Sarawak as a high-income State is based on GNI (gross national index) per capita, from now onward, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is going to have a policy that will distribute Sarawak’s wealth to the people through various projects under Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Meaning that our ultimate objective is to upgrade the economic as well as social status of our rural people by giving them basic infrastructure and also to give skills and talent development to the young generation so that Sarawak can still push ahead, thereby increasing the household income of the rural people,” he said. — DayakDaily
