KUCHING, July 22: Ongoing exploration activities in SK433 Adong Kechil West (AKW) in Miri have revealed early indicators of the presence of reserves.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said studies are currently underway, and the government is not yet able to disclose any detailed information regarding the production plan at this stage.

“At the moment, exploration work is indeed being carried out in the Adong area, and there are indications of reserves.

“However, I cannot reveal anything yet. If others find out, we may risk compromising the study. If the feasibility is confirmed, only then will we proceed,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony of the Marina Bridge project in Miri today.

He stressed that no premature conclusions should be made about the findings or whether the reserves are viable for development.

Earlier in his speech, the Sarawak Premier stated that the ongoing study would utilise new technology.

He added that, if successful, the discovery would contribute additional revenue for Sarawak while also supporting the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) being implemented by the State government.

On April 16, it was reported that the SK433 AKW onshore oil and gas (O&G) field is anticipated to commence first production by 2026, following successful drilling and progression into the development phase.

Drilling at the AKW field began in October 2023, undertaken by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and Petra Energy Berhad (Petra). — DayakDaily
