KUCHING, Aug 3: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is confident that Sarawak will receive more development allocations, through fortified cooperation with the Federal government built on mutual accord and understanding.
Abang Johari highlighted that the remarkable cohesion among Sarawak’s diverse population, encompassing various races, religions, and political affiliations, in conjunction with the seamless cooperation between the Sarawak and Federal administrations, has fostered political stability and propelled the State’s economy to new heights.
“This is proven when in 2022, Sarawak’s income increased to almost RM12 billion compared to RM7.62 billion in 2021.
“The consistent economic growth year on year bodes well for the people who can enjoy the fruits through comprehensive socio-economic development and progress,” he said when addressing the launching of National Month celebration and flying of Jalur Gemilang for Sarawak organised by the Information Department held at the police headquarters in Jalan Badruddin here today.
Abang Johari emphasised that the establishment of the unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also demonstrated the close collaboration between Sarawak and Federal government with shared focus on unity to advance the prosperity and wellbeing of all Malaysians.
“The unity government is not just a coalition of political parties but a manifestation of the Malaysia Madani principle, which champions inclusivity and a spirit of togetherness in the pursuit of national prosperity,” he said.
In recognition of this synergy, Abang Johari lauded the allocation of RM5.6 billion by the Federal government for Sarawak’s development.
Abang Johari also hailed the resilience of Sarawak’s citizens in overcoming the uncertainty and challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have managed to get through all of that due to the resilience and strong ties between the government and people, anchored in the unity plan of both the State and the nation, as well as initiatives and incentives under Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“We are proud of Sarawak’s exemplification of diversity within unity, along with our unique concept of Segulai Sejalai (togetherness), which serves as a beacon not just within Malaysia but on a global scale,” he added.
As a legacy handed down by past and current leaders, Abang Johari expressed his hope that this unity would remain the cornerstone of Sarawak’s multi-generational development journey.
