KUCHING, May 11: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants Persaudaraan Masjid, Bintangor dan Haji Taha (MBHT) to come up with a development plan to preserve its enclave area in Kuching.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) yesterday (May 10), Abang Johari said MBHT needs to have an approach in line with the ongoing development to protect the Malays’ rights in Kuching.
“We should think about the future of the enclave area between Haji Taha Mosque and Bintangor in the current urban renewal development that is happening now.
“If those intellectuals in MBHT can come up with a future plan for the Malays in the digital, green economy, and technological era, we can protect the area while we develop the Bintangor and Haji Taha Mosque to become an iconic area in Kuching,” he said.
He said that Sarawak government has formed ‘Perbadanan Amanah Satok’ which own Hikmah Exchange as part of the efforts to protect the area in Jalan Kulas, Jalan Satok and Jalan Haji Taha.
“If our economy is strong, then with the availability of funds from a new approach, we can use it to develop areas that should be developed under urban renewal program and we can protect the land, and property,” he added. — DayakDaily
