KUCHING, Dec 4: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is among leaders joining the Malaysian delegation to the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Annual Leaders’ Retreat (ALR), where both nations will further strengthen bilateral ties and discuss ongoing regional and international issues.
The delegation, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to witness the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and an Agreement between Malaysia and Singapore during the retreat.
Held alternately in both countries, the annual retreat serves as a platform for leaders to review existing cooperation, address current regional and global developments, and explore new opportunities to deepen bilateral relations.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Johor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Sarawak delegation includes Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and other senior officials.
On Sarawak–Singapore relations, Abang Johari, during his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Wednesday, said Sarawak has received conditional approval from the Singapore Energy Market Authority for the proposed Sarawak–Singapore submarine electricity cable project.
He said the approval marks an important step toward the development of the ASEAN Power Grid and supports Sarawak’s ambition to position itself as the region’s green energy hub. – DayakDaily
