KUCHING, June 26: Sarawak continues to strengthen its strategic cooperation with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to ensure the region’s security and sovereignty are safeguarded, particularly in border areas.
According to the Information Department Sarawak, the commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy call by Commander of the 1st Malaysian Infantry Division, Major General Mohd Sobirin Mohd Yusof, on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Premier’s Office in the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
The meeting provided an avenue to further enhance collaboration between the Headquarters of the 1st Malaysian Infantry Division and the Sarawak government, while addressing key issues related to security and border development.
Among the matters discussed were the current security landscape in Sarawak and ongoing efforts to strengthen border control measures to ensure the region remains safe, peaceful and secure.
Both sides also exchanged views on adopting a more integrated and coordinated approach to border security surveillance in response to evolving security challenges.
Beyond security concerns, discussions also focused on strategic cooperation in developing infrastructure in border regions. Such initiatives are expected to bolster national defence readiness, improve the well-being of local communities and stimulate socio-economic growth in these areas.
Meanwhile, Mohd Sobirin expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak government and relevant agencies for their continued support and close cooperation with the Headquarters of the 1st Malaysian Infantry Division in carrying out its responsibility of defending the State’s security and sovereignty.
