KUCHING, April 8: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been appointed as the patron of the Sarawak Pengiran Descendants and Heirs Association (PKWPS).
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, PKWPS president Dr Awang Nib Zuhairi Awang Ahmad said the organisation welcomed the appointment with great enthusiasm, describing it as a significant and uplifting development.
“We are truly honoured that Sarawak Premier has agreed to serve as patron of our association. This is very encouraging news for all of us,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Premier at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Awang Nib said a key objective of PKWPS is to preserve and document the genealogical heritage of the Pengiran community in Sarawak through comprehensive research in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
He added that the initiative includes compiling and publishing a detailed account of the Pengiran community’s historical development in Sarawak, in partnership with reputable institutions.
“The study will involve collaboration with institutions such as Universiti Brunei, the Brunei Historical Society, the Brunei History Centre, as well as institutions in Sarawak, to ensure that the lineage and contributions of the Pengiran community throughout Sarawak’s history are properly documented,” he explained.
He further noted that the visit also served to introduce PKWPS’s new leadership line-up for the January 2026 to December 2027 term. — DayakDaily
