KUCHING, June 10: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Clean Energy in Sarawak.
Abang Johari said the centre will focus on sustainable energy solutions that address present needs while safeguarding the well-being of future generations.
“The centre will also spearhead its setup and management, symbolising Sarawak’s commitment to innovation and progress in the clean energy sector.
“It is a significant milestone in Sarawak’s pursuit of a sustainable and prosperous future,” he said in his keynote address at the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition 2024 (APGH 2024) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He said the centre would become a hub of innovation, research, and development, bringing together scientists, engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders to pioneer cutting-edge technologies harnessing renewable resources.
“The output of our researchers will be consolidated in that particular centre for us to move forward.
“Secondly is the availability of hydrogen, which has various types such as green and blue hydrogen. Hydrogen can also produce by-products.
“For example, in ammonia production, there must be carbon by-products, and that carbon must be green. So these are all the chemical reactions, and all that will be the information and the data together with this centre of excellence,” he said. — DayakDaily
