KUCHING, Feb 12: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg may provide insights into the timing of the next State election during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Convention, scheduled to take place from February 14 to 16.

PBB veteran Dato Peter Minos said this potential announcement will be closely watched by both current elected representatives and aspiring candidates.

“This is crucial for them to prepare and determine the right time to act,” he said in a statement today.

Minos also highlighted that the Premier is expected to address the ongoing oil and gas controversy, a subject of significant public interest in Sarawak.

“Observers anticipate that Abang Johari will share the State’s position on the matter, along with updates on key economic projects and funding allocations,” he added.

On the political front, Minos opined that Abang Johari, who is also PBB president, will likely discuss the party’s strategy for overcoming challenges, maintaining political unity, and strengthening ties with Putrajaya.

A major highlight of the convention will be the election of four Vice Presidents for the party’s Bumiputera wing.

“Winning candidates will cement their political future within PBB, while the outcome will be pivotal for those who do not succeed.

“The contest is expected to be intense, closely followed, and highly competitive—making it one of the key events of the convention,” he emphasised. – DayakDaily
