KUCHING, May 1: A 25-year-old pregnant woman has tested positive for Covid-19 and is the index case of a new Covid-19 cluster known as the Sungai Nirai Cluster after the virus spread to 40 others in a longhouse in Selangau.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the Sungai Nirai Cluster is a community cluster which was identified at a longhouse in Sungai Nirai in Selangau district in Sibu division.
SDMC said the index case, classified as case 26,492 is a 25-year-old woman who was identified through symptomatic screening at Sibu Hospital on April 26.
She was tested reactive through a rapid test kit (RTK) Antigen at Selangau Health Clinic before being referred and admitted to Sibu Hospital for further treatment on April 22.
SDMC said the woman was pregnant and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 on April 11 and only moved around within the longhouse.
Following targeted case detection, a total of 40 individuals tested positive for Covid-19.
SDMC added a total of 66 individuals at the longhouse have been screened for the novel coronavirus.
Out of that amount, 41 have been tested positive including the index case, while 25 have tested negative for the virus.
The other three new clusters detected today are the Batu 25 Cluster in Bintulu, Long Jegan Cluster in Beluru, Sungai Mas Cluster in Sebauh and Sungai Nirai Cluster in Selangau.
The additional four clusters of Covid-19 has brought the cumulative number of active clusters in Sarawak to 79 clusters.
A total of 16 clusters have reported an increase of 117 new cases while 63 clusters did not report new cases. — DayakDaily
