KUCHING, Jan 7: What was meant to be a prank ended up in the arrest of a 36-year-old man for brandishing a fake gun.
According to Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the suspect was arrested at 4.05pm at Jalan Tun Jugah here yesterday (Jan 6).
“Police confiscated a replica of a gun, a bicycle, and a bag containing money.
“The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 which provides for a prison sentence of not less than one year or a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or both,” he said in a statement.
It was reported that an eight-second video went viral on social media showing a man who was cycling while holding what looked like a gun along Jalan Tun Jugah.
Mohd Farhan has called for witnesses with information on the incident to come forward by contacting the Kuching IPD operations centre at 082-24444 or investigating officer Inspector Nasyirah Kisun at 016-8284373.
“The public is advised that owning or carrying an imitation pistol is an offence under the act and not to distribute the video as it may cause public disorder,” he said. — DayakDaily
