KUCHING, June 17: Sarawak is set to produce its own corned beef under Sarabif.
This was said by Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Sarawak, Martin Ben, who added that it would be under PPES Ternak Sdn Bhd.
He said this aligns with PPES Ternak’s downstream activity and will roll out its first canned corned beef when its factory beside the Siburan Halal Abattoir Complex is completed this August.
PPES Ternak owns the abattoir, which can slaughter up to 100 cows daily as they have a feedlot that can accommodate 800 to 1,000 cows.
He said this during the first-ever ‘Cattle Auction Day’ held today at the Siburan Halal Abattoir Complex, organised by PPES Ternak.
Ben continued to say that these activities carried out by PPES are in line with his ministry’s inspiration to develop the livestock industry in Sarawak and commended PPES Ternak for being the leader in the cattle industry in the State.
According to the PPES Ternak general manager, Artino Arshad, their company had also obtained Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification, ensuring vendors meet the food safety standards.
“So apart from corned beef, the factory will also produce beef burger patties, beef balls, beef nuggets, and others,” he said.
Ministry permanent secretary Sirai Daha, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, and Veterinary Service Department Sarawak director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud were also at the auction. — DayakDaily
