KUCHING, July 17: Sarawak Energy is currently in the process of carrying out cable laying works to bypass the landslide site which disrupted the electricity supply in Batu Kitang, Bau, Lundu and Sematan.
Sarawak Energy regional manager for Western Region Choo Min Chong, said repair efforts are hampered by unsafe conditions at the site of the landslide, and over the next few days, the team will be working to lay cables bypassing the landslide site.
“Earth movement at the landslide site hampered the team’s progress for safe and quick restoration works. We truly appreciate the kind understanding of our customers,” he explained in a statement today.
He assured that their technical team is currently on site to conduct the repair works.
According to the statement, the damaged electrical cables were caused by a landslide near Kampung Haji Baki along Jalan Batu Kitang around midnight on Friday (July 16) which affected supply to customers in Batu Kitang, Bau, Lundu and Sematan areas.
Sarawak Energy immediately deployed its operations team to assess the impact of the landslide and managed to restore supply to affected customers by around 2am via an alternative circuit.
