In a statement posted on its social media yesterday (March 17), Miri police said enforcement action was taken against nine identified premises, where electricity supply was disconnected to halt the illegal operations.

“The measure was taken under Section 21A(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which allows for utility disconnection at premises used for unlawful gambling,” the statement added.

The operation highlights continued enforcement efforts to curb the misuse of commercial properties for illegal activities, particularly as online gambling becomes more widespread.

It also emphasised the importance of close cooperation between the Royal Malaysia Police and utility providers in strengthening enforcement against such offences.

Police warned that illegal online gambling carries serious social consequences, including contributing to crime and other social ills, adding that similar operations will be carried out from time to time. — DayakDaily
