Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the post-mortem plans, saying it will provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death.

Yuan’s stepfather, 37, and her biological mother were both away from home at the time, as they were at work.

Her stepfather, who is a local employed as a cook, was reported to be at his workplace when the fire occurred.

The Miri Fire and Rescue Department responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 3:06am.

The fire engulfed one of the semi-detached houses entirely, leaving the adjacent home with ceiling damage.

The affected houses each measure approximately 20 by 30 square feet.

Later in the day, Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin visited the scene and contacted the Miri Welfare Department to arrange for support for the family.

He expressed his condolences and gave assurance the family would receive immediate assistance. — DayakDaily
