Positive Covid-19 spouse of MCC staff triggers blanket testing for all, council shuttered

MIRI, Jan 20: The spouse of a staff of the Miri City Council (MCC) was tested as Covid-19 positive leading to the temporary closing down of its Administration Department.

All the other staff of the Administration Department been asked to undergo the test as well by the health authorities, said MCC Mayor Adam Yii in a press statement today.

ā€œUpon receiving the report, the Councilā€™s management has immediately taken precautionary measures to close down the Administration Department and its staff were asked to work from home as from January 19, 2021, until the outcome of the test on the staff concerned is being made known.


ā€œThe Council will then follow the necessary SOP (standard operating procedure) depending on the outcome of the report,ā€ said Yii who added that
earlier on, the office of the whole of the Administration Department had been sanitized.

Meanwhile, he said the Council will carry out the massive sanitizing process to all the offices in the Councilā€™s main building at Jalan Raja, Miri.

ā€œAll Council staff and visitors are required strictly to adhere with the tightened SOP in the Council office.

ā€œThe Miri City Mayor appeals to the general public including the Council staff to remain calm and let the Councilā€™s health teams carrying out the necessary precautionary actions according to the advice given by the Medical Authority,ā€ said Yii.

He advised all Sarawakians not to speculate as this may cause unduly alarm and jeopardize the efforts of the health authorities.
