KUCHING, Nov 6: With Lo Khere Chiang standing as one of the candidates for Stampin in the coming election, Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate and incumbent Chong Chieng Jen may not be able to retain his seat.

This is the opinion of political pundit Dato Peter Minos as he said Batu Kitang assemblyman and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo is a solid candidate with his likeable and approachable temperament.

“Even though a Chinese, Lo gets along very well with the Bumiputera voters in Stampin. My Bidayuh friends say that Lo is the best.

“The Bumiputera votes matter a lot in a tight race with DAP as I heard over 20 per cent (of voters) in Stampin are Bumiputeras,” said Minos in a statement today.

Therefore, he predicts that Lo, representing Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), would be able to wrest Stampin from Chong.

On the overall sentiment of voters, Minos said Sarawakians are no longer keen on Malaya-based parties such as DAP and PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat).

He said Sarawakians today are inclined towards the ‘Sarawak First’ message as they realise how Sarawak and Sabah have been treated unfairly by Peninsular Malaysia over the decades. — DayakDaily
