KUCHING, Dec 16: A Sarawakian political analyst has predicted a landslide victory of two-thirds majority for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 12th Sarawak Election which will take place on Dec 18.
Political scientist Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan of Universiti Putra Malaysia said it is due to a weak Opposition that is in disarray that will allow a walkover by the ruling coalition.
Another factor that he said would give rise to such an outcome is the lack of facilities and networks to reach out to voters, especially in the semi-rural and rural areas.
The third factor he cited was the tight Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) placed on campaigning which benefited the ruling coalition.
“GPS will be voted in with a comfortable majority and perhaps with more than two-thirds majority. This, I have no doubt from the beginning,” Jayum told DayakDaily.
On Dec 8, when DayakDaily approached him for his take on this election, Jayum had criticised the Opposition’s lack of unity and poor strategy.
He had criticised the disunity among the Opposition, which he said were missing an opportune time to unseat GPS.
He said not only did the Opposition not strategise properly to face this election as a team, there was even bickering among themselves, leading him to predict that the Opposition could only win a few seats, but not enough to overthrow the GPS government. — DayakDaily
