KUCHING, Nov 19: Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s call for Sabahans to emulate Sarawak’s political model serves as a timely and sincere reminder for the State to stay united and free from outside interference.

Political pundit Dato Peter Minos said the Crown Prince’s remarks carried particular weight, coming as they did from a non-politician and a Malayan royal speaking candidly to Sabahans.

“He spoke honestly, urging Sabah to follow Sarawak’s example, where the State is able to pursue its own priorities without undue interference from Kuala Lumpur or peninsular political actors,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the message is especially significant with Sabah’s polling day on Nov 29 approaching, giving Sabahans an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconsider their political direction.

“No one is telling Sabahans which party to support. That is entirely their democratic right. But TMJ’s words resonate because they come from a neutral perspective, without taking sides,” he said.

Minos also noted that Sarawakians wish for their fellow East Malaysians to thrive, as Sabah’s wellbeing directly benefits the broader region.

“It is disheartening to see Sabah struggling with incomplete Pan Borneo Highway projects, pothole-ridden roads, frequent water and electricity disruptions, and slow economic development. What benefits Sabah ultimately benefits Sarawak,” he said.

He concluded that Tunku Ismail’s comments should serve as encouragement for Sabah to reassess its political path as it prepares to elect new leaders.

“Unity, stability, and a clear sense of direction remain crucial for Sabah’s long-term progress, just as they have been for Sarawak,” Minos said. — DayakDaily
