KUCHING, Nov 8: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has elevated Sarawak’s status after receiving invitations to speak at various local and international events.

This is the opinion of Datuk Peter Minos, a political pundit from Sarawak, who substantiated his observation by listing some of the invitations Abang Johari has received, including those from the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and a recent invitation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to address the Federal Cabinet.

“When the Prime Minister asked our Premier to brief the Federal Cabinet recently on economic issues, I thought that was great and laudable.

“Now the Terengganu Mentri Besar (Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar) is also coming to be briefed on many issues. All goes to show that others are no longer looking down on Sarawak as they once did. Instead, now they look up to Sarawak for ideas and strategies.

“We cannot help but feel proud. I think our Premier has put Sarawak on a pedestal. We owe it to our visionary and progressive Premier,” said Minos in a statement today.

Minos, who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, said many more are impressed by Abang Johari’s pursuit of innovation, including the push for the use of hydrogen, green energy, sustainable development, carbon capture and storage.

“It is pretty unbelievable but all are real and coming from Sarawak.

“The challenge is now on our universities including Unimas (Universiti Sarawak Malaysia), UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA), UTS (University of Technology Sarawak), Swinburne University and Curtin University to pick it all up.”

Minos highlighted that it is the responsibility of these universities to specialise, focus, and replicate what Abang Johari has been doing, serving as a reference and advisory resource for Sarawak’s progressive initiatives. — DayakDaily
