Political analyst: How will new Sarawak Governor set out to cement role in diverse State?

Professor Dr Jayum Jawan

KUCHING, Jan 26: Following Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar assuming the office of Governor of Sarawak, a political analyst has raised questions regarding the role the former will play in this highly diverse State.

The query of Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan,  Professor of Political Science of Universiti Putra Malaysia, came about as the new King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar of Johor who has been chosen as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII, has been reported to prioritise the welfare of Malaysians instead of that of the MPs.

“It is clear that the in-coming King is going to be the king of all as His Majesty is widely reported to have said that he would be looking after the welfare of abut 30 million Malaysians as opposed to 222 Members of Parliament.

“That was a very strong message to the people and especially lawmakers and politicians who are tensely playing politics, to try to bring each other down instead of focusing on working for the well-being of the people.

“In the same light that the King is assuring Malaysians of all divides, the people of Sarawak are also waiting to hear what the incoming 8th Governor is going to do and how he intends to play his role in Sarawak and towards the highly diversified population there,” said Jayum in a statement today. — DayakDaily
