Police: Varsity student believed to have hanged herself

SIBU, Jan 9: A 24-year-old woman had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her room in their family’s home at Lorong Bukit Lima Timur today.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 7.15 am, the Lanang Police station received a call from the mother of the 24-year old woman, saying that the latter had hanged herself to death.

The deceased was a student of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang.


“At about 6 am, her parents woke up and went to her room where the door was opened. They found her sitting next to a cabinet in her room. They found her neck was wrapped with a towel and tied to the window,” he said.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead and noticed bruises on her neck.

“The woman left behind a farewell note to her family,” said Asst Comm Stanley.

The police he said, had ruled out any foul play in the woman’s death.

He added that the woman had died seven hours ago prior to her parents finding her lifeless in her room. -DayakDaily
