KUCHING, July 4: Police have taken statements from 22 witnesses in connection with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) incident involving Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing and Immigration Department officers.
According to a report by news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan today said the 22 witnesses comprised of 12 Immigration Department officers, four auxiliary police officers, two travel company employees and four members of the public who lodged complaints about Tiong’s visit.
Hussein said their investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
Last Thursday (June 29), it was reported that a Federal minister had caused a commotion at KLIA by entering the immigration counters to ‘rescue’ a Chinese national who Immigration officers detained upon entering Malaysia.
Tiong later confirmed that he was the minister involved but denied that he was there to demand the authorities to release the detained tourist, claiming that he intended to expose the ‘culture of corruption’ within the Immigration Department’s handling of foreign visitors at KLIA. — DayakDaily
