KAPIT, Dec 22: Police are calling for help from the public to identify the body of a man found floating in the Baleh River, Nanga Kemali, Kapit yesterday morning (Saturday).

The man, aged 45 to 50, was found at around 7am by passers-by who subsequently informed the police.

According to Kapit District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Freddy Bian, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, believed to be a local, was only clad in long pants.

A search of the body did not yield any identification documents.

“A body search revealed the deceased was a local man based on the ‘Bacillus Calmette – Guérin’ (BCG) injection on his right arm,” Freddy disclosed in a media statement today.

There were also tattoos of Iban flowers on the left and right shoulders and ‘LEKA 5’ on the left arm.

It is estimated that the man had perished within the past six days.

So far, the police here have yet to receive any reports of missing persons in the area.

“Anyone who has lost a family member may contact Kapit IPD Police Station at 084-799622. The remains are now being held at Kapit Hospital,” Freddy urged, adding police are still investigating the cause of the incident.

“So far, we have classified the case as sudden death (SDR) until the results of the autopsy are known.” — DayakDaily
