MIRI, Oct 11: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) today lodged a police report against Muslims attending the Neon Beer Fest event which is scheduled to run from today until Oct 14 here.

A crowd of more than 50 people gathered at the Miri central police station around 4.30pm to show their protest against the festival as Abdullah Gani, an imam with Piasau Jaya Phase 1 mosque, filed the report.

It was alleged that the festival promotes drinking beer, and hence, the event’s organiser was urged to put up a notice at the venue entrance prohibiting Muslims from entering the venue.

The event is said to feature dance performances, DJs from Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, beer-drinking competition, fashion show, food stalls, and live bands, amongst others. — DayakDaily
