KOTA SAMARAHAN, March 13: Police have opened an investigation after an 11-year-old boy was allegedly slapped by a man in an incident at Kampung Asajaya Ulu here on Wednesday night.
Kota Samarahan deputy district police chief DSP Barry William said police received a report on March 11 from a 47-year-old complainant at about 10.27pm regarding the incident.
According to the report, the incident occurred earlier at about 9.30pm when the complainant’s son was allegedly slapped by a man known to the family.
“As a result of the incident, the complainant’s child sustained injuries to his left cheek,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the suspect, a 47-year-old local man, had also lodged a police report following the incident.
According to the suspect, the altercation was triggered by his claim that the complainant’s son had punctured the tyre of his van.
Police are currently investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Barry said the investigation paper will be referred to the Sarawak director of Public Prosecutions for further instructions once a medical report is obtained from the Heart Institute Kota Samarahan.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the case, as doing so could disrupt the investigation and may result in legal action.
“The police remain committed to ensuring public safety and order, and urge all parties involved to cooperate fully with the authorities in the investigation,” he added. — DayakDaily
