Police investigate accidental shooting in Simunjan

SIMUNJAN, Dec 13: A villager in Simunjan succumbed to his injuries after it is believed he accidentally shot himself.

Simunjan district police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said that the incident occurred at 4.27pm on Thursday at the deceased’s home in a village in Simunjan.

“According to the witness statement made by the deceased’s sister, she heard a gunshot while cooking in the kitchen. After looking for the source of the sound, she found the deceased gasping for breath and lying in a pool of blood in the main room of the house with the shotgun on his thighs.”

The man died soon after.

According to Merbin, the gun belonging to the deceased was legally registered. The shotgun was confiscated to facilitate investigations and the body brought to Serian Hospital. The deceased will be sent to Sarawak General Hospital for postmortem.

Police are still carrying out investigation to identify the cause of the incident. The case has been classified under sudden death report (SDR). —DayakDaily.
