Police have arrested 28 for violating MCO

KUCHING, Mar 26: A total of 28 people has been arrested by police for not complying with the Movement Control Order (MCO) as of 8am today.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Sarawak, Datuk Dev Kumar in a statement today disclosed the arrests have been made since March 25, involving 24 males, and four females from all over the state.

He said that the highest number of arrests was made in Miri (9 individuals), followed by Dalat (7), Sarikei (4), while two were arrested in Kota Samarahan, Lawas and Bintulu, and one was arrested in both Kuching and Padawan.


“Twenty six individual failed to provided a justifiable reason to be on the road or public places, while two others was arrested for ramming into a police roadblock in Batu Niah,” he said.

Dev noted that 26 individuals was released on police bail, while the couple from Miri that rammed into police roadblock was still detained for further investigation.

He said all of the arrest were being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Rule 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local Infected Areas) Regulations 2020.

Dev also advised the public to adhere to the MCO which was extended until April 14, 2020.

“The police would not compromise to make an arrest against any individual that do not provide a valid reason to be outside during a roadblock and during a snap-check,” he added. —DayakDaily.
