MIRI, March 4: Police discharged two shots during a high-speed chase from the Tudan Desaras residential area after two men in a Perodua Axia tried to ram police personnel in an incident at about 5.55pm on Sunday (March 3).

Fortunately, no police personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were injured in the incident.

According to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the duo was detained under Section 506 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Alexson said prior to the incident, police had received a report lodged by the complainant in Tudan Desaras about the suspects making excessive noise with their motorcycles within the neighbourhood.

“The suspects were not happy about the complaint made against them, and they threatened the complainant, prompting the complainant to lodge a police report,” said Alexson.

Acting on the report lodged, a team of Miri CID personnel had gone to the residential area to locate the suspects’ whereabouts.

Coincidentally, upon their arrival at the area, the police spotted the suspects’ car at one of the junctions there and instructed them to stop the car.

But the suspect suddenly accelerated towards the police, narrowly missing hitting one of the CID personnel as both suspects sped away.

Despite the close call, the officers remained calm and composed, quickly regrouping to pursue the suspects.

Both were finally arrested after their car skidded and crashed into a monsoon drain. — DayakDaily
