KUCHING, Oct 30: The Kuching District Police Headquarters has confirmed that the body found in a vehicle at a shopping mall car-park along Jalan Song yesterday afternoon is that of a woman who had been reported missing since Saturday (Oct 25).
In a statement today, District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that at around 1.55pm on Oct 29, officers responded to a report by a member of the public of an unconscious woman inside a parked vehicle.
The vehicle was located in the multi-storey car-park of a mall in the area.
Upon arrival, police found the woman lying in the driver’s seat.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Tabuan Jaya) were called in because the vehicle was locked from the inside and needed to be opened.
Medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital later confirmed the woman was deceased.
The woman, aged in her 20s and locally resident in Tabuan Jaya, had been reported missing earlier this week by family and friends.
Police say the identity has been confirmed via matching the missing-person report and vehicle registration.
The body has been sent to the hospital’s forensic department for further investigation.
ACP Alexson emphasised that preliminary findings show no criminal element involved with the case is being treated as a sudden death.
He also urged the public to refrain from speculation to allow the family of the deceased privacy and dignity.
