SIBU, Jan 1: The police have dismissed claims that a viral video showing a shooting incident at a restaurant, which was circulated on Monday (Dec 30), took place in Sibu.

In a news report by TVS, Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili clarified that the footage was actually recorded overseas.

“The video, which shows a shooting at a restaurant and claims it occurred in the heart of Sibu, is false.

“Upon investigation, we confirmed that the incident actually took place abroad,” he said in a statement yesterday (Dec 31).

Zulkipli also urged the public not to spread false news or videos that could create public unrest.

He emphasised that the police would take strict action against those responsible.

“The police take this matter seriously and will act under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 against individuals who misuse social media platforms.

“Offenders may face a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both,” he warned. — DayakDaily
