KUCHING, June 19: Police have arrested three local men in their 20s in connection with an armed gang robbery that occurred along Jalan Song Thian Cheok.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident was first reported on May 31, 2026 at about 12.02am, involving a robbery by a group believed to be armed, which took place by the roadside at Jalan Song Thian Cheok.

“Acting on intelligence, police conducted coordinated arrests on June 17 at about 2.45am and 10.15am, successfully detaining all three suspects. Preliminary checks revealed that two of them have prior criminal records,” he said in a statement on Thursday (June 18).

During the operation, police also seized a white Proton Saga FLX, three mobile phones as well as clothing believed to have been used during the crime to assist ongoing investigations.

“All three suspects have been remanded for seven days following approval by the Kuching Magistrate to facilitate further investigation,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

The police urged the public to enhance home security measures, including installing CCTV systems, alarms, and ensuring all entry points are securely locked, especially at night.
