Police arrest foreigner for armed robbery on female e-hailing driver in Sibu

SIBU, June 3: An Indonesian man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery case against a 55-year-old female e-hailing driver.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkifli Suhaili said that the 18-year-old was detained at about 1.30pm on June 2 at Jalan Ling Kai Cheng.

“At about 4.30am on May 30, the victim picked up the suspect at Jalan Teku-Jalan Pasai Siong. Upon arrival at the destination, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and placed it on the woman’s neck, ” he said.

Fearing for her safety, the woman ran out of her car.

ACP Zulkifli said the suspect, who has no valid travelling documents, took the wheel and tried to speed off with the victim’s belongings. However, he met with an accident and ran off.

The woman sustained light injuries during the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code. The suspect has been remanded for 14 days until June 17 to assist in the investigation. — DayakDaily
