KUCHING, May 29: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that he has not yet considered a Cabinet reshuffle following the resignations of two Federal ministers as they are still officially on leave.
According to a report by Bernama, Anwar said that, in principle, Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who both announced their resignations this week, have yet to vacate their posts and therefore cannot be replaced at this stage.
“They are still on leave. We cannot replace ministers who are currently on leave,” he told reporters after the monthly assembly with the staff of the Prime Minister’s Department today.
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced yesterday that they would step down from their Cabinet positions, effective June 17 and July 4, respectively. Their resignations come in the wake of their defeat in the recent 2025 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) party elections, where Rafizi failed to defend his position as Deputy President and Nik Nazmi lost his seat as Vice President.
The Prime Minister’s Office, in a statement yesterday, confirmed that Anwar has received letters from the two ministers requesting leave and tendering their resignations from the Cabinet posts.
The statement also noted that Anwar has approved their leave requests, and any further decisions will be announced by the Prime Minister. – DayakDaily
