KUCHING, Jan 19: The Federal government is looking into increasing the number of High Court judge posts for Sabah and Sarawak following the increase of cases in both States.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it was one of the proposals presented in the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
“We will give some priority to, firstly, increase the number of judge posts due to the rising number of cases in Sabah and Sarawak, and secondly, the need to examine court buildings in Sabah and Sarawak which were found to be in a dilapidated state,” he said in a press conference broadcast live by Bernama TV on Facebook yesterday.
He further said the process of appointing High Court judges for Sabah and Sarawak would be referred to the Yang di-Pertua of Sabah and Sarawak, respectively, before it is presented before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as per the Federal Constitution.
Also present at the press conference were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Communications and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil. — DayakDaily
