PM approves RM25 million for Kapit Airstrip shortcut road access and upgrading of Kapit Hospital

KUCHING, Dec 4: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has approved a RM25 million allocation to construct a shortcut road access from Kapit Airstrip and the upgrading of Kapit Hospital.

According to Ismail Sabri, the proposed construction of shortcut road access Kapit Airstrip is to avoid traffic congestion, while for Kapit Hospital, it is to improve the Hemodialysis Unit.

“For the Kapit Airstrip, I approved the RM20 million allocation, and for the proposed upgrading of Kapit Hospital Hemodialysis Unit, with an estimated cost of RM5 million, it is also approved,” said Ismail in his speech when attending a Leaders with People programme held at Kapit Town Square, today.


Ismail Sabri said that he has a very close relationship with Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and if there is anything (project application) that can be approved quickly, it will be expedited for the benefit of the people in Kapit.

“For other applications, even though it is a lot, if it was read by Alex earlier, I will approve it too,” he added.

In June this year, the late Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, who was the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, announced the construction of the 790-metre runway Bukit Mabong airport in Kapit, with the cost of RM173.5 million, which offers cargo and passenger carrier (services).

It can accommodate a twin otter passenger aircraft and a Cessna 208 aircraft with a three-tonne load.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also disclosed that a Mara Professional College will be built in Kapit by the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) with a cost of RM97 million.

“As of today, the budget is already there, and it is only waiting for the land acquisition process to be completed,” he said.
