KUCHING, April 2: The prolonged conflict in West Asia is expected to require a long recovery period, but Malaysia remains in a relatively stable economic position to weather the challenges, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a special video posted last night, the Prime Minister said the current developments show the conflict is not only affecting countries in the region, but its impact is now being felt globally, including in Malaysia.

“From my discussions with the President of Iran, leaders of Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, as well as my brief visit to Indonesia with President Bapak Prabowo Subianto, they have all indicated that the situation will worsen before it improves and will certainly take a much longer time to recover,” he said.

However, he pointed out that Malaysia is taking measures to ensure that the nation’s economic position continues to remain stable, such as the adjustment of its resources. The quota for the BUDI MADANI 95 fuel subsidy has been adjusted to 200 litres per month, effective April 1, alongside the enforcement of daily limits on subsidised diesel refuelling in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

“We are entering this phase with a relatively stable economy and can endure for example, RON95 is priced at RM1.99.

“That is quite surprising because if we look at the cost and price of oil elsewhere, people have to queue and there is rationing in countries in that region it is certainly distressing. When the situation eases slightly, it does not mean we can be complacent,” he added. – DayakDaily
