KUCHING, Feb 24: A plan is underway to help build a new house for 79-year-old Sindeb Nuik, whose house at Kpg Abang, Jalan Borneo Heights was gutted by fire at about 7:30 yesterday morning.
Assistant Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said Padawan sub-district office will liaise with the Resident office to seek for the fund to help the victim.
“For the state government, we have fund under the natural disaster, and this we will help to process immediately to assist the fire victim,” Dr Jerip said when visiting the victim at the village today.
Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman said his service centre will also assist with this.
“We will assist and also will continue to provide short term assistance like providing food,” he pointed out.
According to him, the Welfare Department has also visited the victim to look into the kind of assistance to be given to the victim.
Hope Place, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has also come forward to assist, he added.
Dr Jerip was glad to note that there were no casualties during the incident.
He reminded the people in the area to check their houses’ wiring system, while at the same time be very careful while cooking.
In the incident, Sindeb, whose husband died about a year ago was doing gardening outside the house.
According to the village chief, Mission Limbang, she did not realise that her house was on fire until she was informed by a motorcyclist, who happened to pass by.
At the moment, Fire Department is still assessing the loss, and the victim is putting at her daughter’s house, Anna Austin Katat, which is located opposite.
During the visit today, Dr Jerip also donated cash to the victim, food and other items.
Present was also Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) from Padawan sub-district office Rangen Jamang.
