KUCHING, June 28: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak urges the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government to construct a tar-sealed road at Jelalong which is located within the Murum and Hulu Rajang constituencies.
PKR Sarawak communication and information chief Abun Sui Anyit said the villagers and community in Jelalong have been complaining that the roads there are bad, slippery and dangerous for driving.
“There are villagers in Jelalong who complained that they could not get out to town and cities to sell their agricultural produce.
“If the situation persists, they will not be able to market their agricultural produce in town or city.
“Currently, the muddy roads are the only land transportation for villagers in Jelalong who are staying on the riverbank of Sungai Kemena, Tubau and Sungai Jelalong,” he said in a press statement yesterday
Abun Sui gathered that for 57 years since Sarawak has achieved independence, there is no tar-sealed road leading to Jelalong.
He observed that there are just logging roads and muddy roads for the villagers in the rural community to travel to and fro from town.
Abun Sui said the villagers in Jelalong have already complained about the matter to Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
Until now, Abun Sui said the villagers in Jelalong has yet to receive positive response from them on the road construction project there.
Thus, Abun Sui who is PKR Hulu Rajang branch chief, is calling on the state government to construct a proper and tar-sealed road for the people there. —DayakDaily
