KUCHING, June 28: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy secretary-general Tay Wei Wei @ Naga Libau has strongly urged the police to take immediate action and launch an investigation against West Malaysian activist and lawyer Asiah Abdul Jalil for her recent remarks about Sabah and Sarawak.
Tay was referring to a post by Asiah on her Facebook page on June 23 where she criticised on Sabah and Sarawak, sparking outrage and backlash on social media.
“Her statement is rude, disrespectful and looks down on the regional status and people of Sabah and Sarawak. Her remarks go against the principles of Malaysia Madani inspired by PMX (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).
“I request that the police or relevant authorities to investigate the matter because her remarks have angered the majority of people in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.
Tay also emphasised that Asiah should publicly apologise to the people of Sabah and Sarawak for her insulting and unkind comments, especially considering that the two Borneo regions contribute the largest share of oil and gas revenue to Malaysia’s economy.
Meanwhile, Asiah, in her post, stated that she would resign within 24 hours if she were a civil servant assigned to serve in Sabah or Sarawak. She expressed the view that these two regions are unsuitable for career advancement, starting a family or raising children, as she claimed it would negatively impact mental and emotional wellbeing.
She also claimed, even after 60 years of independence within Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak have been unsuccessful in producing enough citizens who can fill vacancies within their respective States, and continue to rely on West Malaysians to serve there.
Asiah further questioned the ability of Sabah and Sarawak to thrive if they were to leave Malaysia as even though they have much resources, they don’t have quality citizens and thus, it would be difficult for them to progress and be independent. — DayakDaily
