KUCHING, July 25: Piping works are currently being carried out in Kenyalang Park area and are expected to resolve the low water pressure issues affecting residents and businesses in the area once completed.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said Sarawak Water had identified the cause of the problem and was now carrying out rectification works, including the installation and welding of a 600mm by 200mm clamp tee to the affected pipeline.

“We have already asked Sarawak Water to identify the cause. Their current response is that they are installing and welding the clamp tee. Once all the pipe works at this location are completed, the water flow should return to normal,” he explained during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.

Wee said the works were expected to be completed by next week if everything proceeded smoothly, adding that MBKS would continue to monitor the progress and provide updates to the public.

The mayor said his team had also visited Kenyalang Park this morning following complaints from residents and business operators about inconsistent water supply, with some experiencing weak water flow or periods without water.

“Some residents had to wake up in the middle of the night to store water, while some hawkers complained that the lack of water supply at night affected their operations,” he said.

Wee said a community leader had been tasked to visit affected households and businesses, document the situation through videos, and submit the findings to the council and subsequently Sarawak Water for action.

He also urged residents to give Sarawak Water time to complete the improvement works, assuring that the matter was being followed up closely.

“This is about solving the problem. When residents face issues, we should use the proper channels to address them,” he said.

Wee added that public complaints should not be politicised, stressing that the priority should be resolving issues affecting the community.

“I have always emphasised that we cannot solve every person’s problem immediately, but give us some time and we will do our best to assist,” he assured.

Meanwhile, Wee also highlighted the swift response by Sarawak Water in addressing a separate pipe burst incident near the Green Heights Villa after video complaint was submitted late last night (July 24).

According to Wee, the complaint was received at 10.42pm, and the leaking pipe was repaired by 11.27pm, within about half an hour.

He said the incident demonstrated the effectiveness and responsiveness of the relevant agencies when complaints were properly channelled.

“People need to see these things before they can believe them. What we monitor every day is not just about making statements; we need to show the public what we are doing,” he said. — DayakDaily
