KUCHING, July 22: A burst water pipe near the Jalan Wan Alwi traffic lights here has disrupted water supply to several neighbourhoods in Kuching South, prompting immediate action by the Kuching Water Board (KWB) and local authorities to rectify the issue.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who visited the site this morning accompanied by MBKS councillors Cr Eric Tay, Cr Judith Kho, Cr Liew Yeong Yee, and Cr Albert Tay, said the incident occurred within the construction zone of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Blue Line (Package 2).
“The incident has resulted in low water pressure or no water supply in areas including Jalan Bayor Bukit, Jalan Keranji, Jalan Urat Mata, and surrounding neighbourhoods,” he said in a statement today.
Wee assured that the burst pipe has been isolated and rectified, and that the repair team is currently working on restoring the affected stretch within the working zone.
“We are in close coordination with the Kuching Water Board, who have promptly mobilised water tankers to the affected areas to ensure residents have access to clean water during this period,” he added.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses, Wee said the repair team is making every effort to complete the works as swiftly and safely as possible.
He also thanked the public for their patience and understanding, and advised all road users to exercise caution when passing through the area while repair works are ongoing. — DayakDaily
