MIRI, Oct 7: A 48-year-old pillion rider was killed when he was struck by a car after falling from a motorcycle on Saturday night (Oct 5) along Jalan Lopeng.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim fell from the motorcycle into the opposite lane and was hit by a Honda Civic, driven by a 41-year-old man.
The incident occurred at around 7.50pm.
According to the police investigation, the motorcycle, steered by a 30-year-old man, was traveling from the direction of Miri Hospital towards Riam.
The victim, riding pillion, fell from the motorcycle and landed on the opposite lane, where he was first hit by a vehicle that fled the scene without stopping.
Shortly after, the victim was hit by a Honda Civic, causing fatal injuries.
The motorcycle was undamaged in the incident, while the Honda Civic sustained front-end damage.
Both the motorcyclist and the car driver were unharmed.
“The pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries,” said Alexson.
Police have launched an investigation into the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
They are urging anyone with information on the incident to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Miri District Police Headquarters at 085-430479.
