SIBU, Aug 20: A female photographer in her 20s suffered a loss of RM26,780 after being deceived by an online job offer that promised high commission.
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said today the victim lodged a police report with the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) on August 19.
Zulkipli said on August 13, the victim came across an advertisement offering part-time work on her Facebook account.
Intrigued by the advertisement, he said, the victim immediately called the number listed in the ad and asked about the job offered.
“She was told to upload a TikTok application to earn a commission as much as RM30 for each transaction.
“The victim was then instructed to upload another eBay application for the purpose of starting the assignment by ordering goods and make the payment within the period set by the suspect,” he added.
According to Zulkipli, starting from August 13, 2023 until August 14, 2023, the victim made 15 payments totaling RM26,780.08 into seven different accounts and was promised a 10 per cent commission for each payment.
But up until the police report was lodged, the victim had not received the promised commission and realised she had been deceived.
“The police have opened investigation papers under Section 420 of the Penal Code for further investigation of this case,” said Zulkipli. — DayakDaily
